He can be scary at times Teen Trainspotting 2 star Scot Greenan on playing hardman Begbies son. He plays the son of Begbie one of Scotlands most notorious movie hardmen characters in Trainspotting sequel T2. And teen actor Scot Greenan admits he was intimidated when Robert Carlyle got into character as psycho Begbie on set. I knew the movie I was auditioning for but I didnt know what the lines or anything would be. I was given a little bit of briefing that it was a boy who would be attending college and thats what I had to go with. I didnt know who the character was. It was really really classified. I went in and saw the casting director and then I saw Danny Boyle. I froze I was almost in shock. They were completely lovely. Danny Boyle was doing the other lines for me, he was reading along with me which was an incredible experience. Both of them were so lovely. Danny Boyle you couldnt meet a nicer person. Hes actually really funny as well. The first time Scot saw the original Trainspotting movie was on the way to his audition. That got it really fresh in my mind, he explained. Thats why I had a good knowledge of it. I think thats probably why Danny Boyle liked me so much at the audition. Usually when you go for auditions you havent got it after two or three weeks. I think I had to wait about five weeks before I got a call back. I thought the thing was long gone. But I thought at least I got to meet Danny Boyle. One day I woke up and my agent was on the phone saying Id got the part. They auditioned a lot of people for that role and thats why it took so long. Thats when I found out who I was playing. When they told me Id be Begbies son I thought Oh Christ This is going to be a fun timeWhen they were sending me my section of the script it was so classified I had to install a programme on my computer so I could open the script and I couldnt see the rest of it only my lines. When Scot met Boyle again after landing the part he got some feedback. He said they were originally looking for someone who was going to be about 6ft 3in to 6ft 5in. Im only about 5ft 1. It was a great compliment. They masked that on the day. They made me wear bigger shoes with celebrity lifts in them because they wanted me to be taller than Begbie. I was surrounded by massive people and they were all so humble. I wanted to get a picture with Robert Carlyle but I didnt have the courage to ask to have a pic. Then on set it was very strict and no photos were allowed. But the biggest memory was being part of the film. The teenager lives with mum Caroline, 4. Other movies were being shown at the Glasgow cinema at the time but security was tight to get in to see the film. There was security scanning you and making sure you had no mobile phones you had to leave phones outside. They were really serious about not leaking anything, he explained. There were a lot of crew there and people who had worked behind the scenes, he explained. No one really knew who I was but then after the film people pointed me out when they recognised me. I didnt know anything about the plot or the story. There are a few parts that are heart wrenching especially the end. I hardly ever cry at anything but I cried. Hes already filming on his next top secret movie project but returned home to Scotland this week to sit his prelims in maths, English, modern studies and drama after previously sitting his business exam. Usually actors go and seek agents with a showreel but I got incredibly lucky. The Lisa Richards Agency said Id done a good job with Macbeth and wanted to ask me on board.
